Using DebtAegis & Document Basics
Is your Answer document the right document for me?
If you haven’t filed an Answer yet, this is the correct document.
If the plaintiff has filed a Motion for Default Judgment, Writ of Garnishment, or another motion, you may need an additional filing.
If you’ve already filed an Answer, you do not need this service.
Can I see a sample?
Do I need to upload my Complaint and Summons?
It depends on your plan:
Essential ($67): Not required. You can simply type in the case details manually to generate your Answer instantly.
Plus & Premium ($147+): Yes. To ensure 100% accuracy, our Legal Document Specialists need to review your original papers to verify court jurisdiction and case numbers.
Don’t have your files handy? You can still place your order now and email a photo or scan of your documents to us later.
Filing Fee
What is a filing fee?
A filing fee is the amount the court charges to officially accept and record your Answer.
If it’s not paid, the court may not process your filing.
How much does the filing fee cost?
It usually ranges from $100–$250, depending on your state and case type.
How do I pay the filing fee?
By including a money order or cashier’s check in the same envelope as your Answer.
Make it payable to:
“Clerk of Your Court Name”
For detailed instructions, please read our Filing Fee & Mailing Guide.
Filing & Court Procedure
What happens if I don’t respond to the lawsuit?
If you don’t file an Answer, the court may enter a default judgment against you. This can lead to wage garnishment, bank account freezes, additional fees, and a permanent judgment on your record.
Why responding helps you
Once you respond, you avoid losing by default and gain leverage to settle with the creditor for far less, stop wage garnishment, and protect your rights.
What if I missed the filing deadline?
You should still file immediately.
Many courts accept late filings if no default judgment has been entered.
